Tooth Colored Fillings

Tooth colored fillings have been in use for the front teeth for decades. These fillings are made of a composite resin material that is bonded to the teeth using high intensity visible light.

We had to wait some time for tooth colored fillings to be perfected. Especially for back teeth–molars–we were wary at first. The materials only a few years ago just weren’t strong enough to hold up to normal bite pressure. Now they are.

Composite resins have a lot going for them. Their cosmetic properties, of course, are unsurpassed. By building up the material in layers, and bonding as we go, the filling actually strengthens the tooth structure.

Learning how to place these fillings takes a little practice, even finesse. But we’re happy to say we have done our homework, and achieve consistently strong, good-looking results.

While we don’t advocate replacing perfectly good amalgam restorations, we will consider, for the right candidate, placing composite resins when your silver filling begins to lose function.
